PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CT MA PR) Hurricane Henri Storm-Tide Sensor Deployment

Summary: The USGS New England WSC is deploying storm-tide and and wave sensors for Hurricane Henri, which is expected to cause major storm-tide flooding this weekend in the Northeast.

Event Information:
The USGS New England Water Science Center (NYWSC) is closely monitoring the track and intensity of Tropical Storm Henri. Currently, the storm is forecast by the National Hurricane Center (NHC) to become a Hurricane and make landfall on the New England coastline later Sunday.

USGS scientists, are deploying temporary storm-tide and wave sensors in front of the storm in areas forecast to receive the highest storm-tide flooding. Ten teams of 2 are deploying sensors. The New England WSC is expecting to deploy 35-50 storm tide/wave sensors and adequate barometric pressure compensation sensors across the entire southern New England coast and up into Cape Cod bay.

This effort is being funded through a FEMA Mission Assignment.
