PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (TX) Heavy Rain across Central, North, and East Texas

Summary: Widespread rainfall across much of Central, North, and East Texas for the past few days has led to localized flooding, with an additional 5 to 7 inches of rain likely

Over the last 3 days, most of Texas has received significant rainfall amounts, with 10 to 13 inches along the coast and in the Lavaca-Navidad River Basin, and widespread areas receiving 4 to 7 inches. An additional 5 to 7 inches is expected over the next 72 hours which will lead to localized flash flooding as well as riverine flooding in effected areas.

Today, the OTWSC has 16 staff in the field visiting 12 sites and have made approximately 14 high-flow discharge measurements. One reservoir gage is malfunctioning and is being repaired this afternoon. All other equipment appears to be reporting valid data.

No peaks of record have been recorded at this point in the event. Major streams that have been effected are the Nueces, Lavaca, Colorado, Trinity, Neches, and Sabine. Other basins are saturated and additional rainfall is expected to result in additional flooding.

Interaction with local, state, and federal cooperators is ongoing, including the National Weather Service and the Corps of Engineers.
