PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (HI) Moderate Flooding in Hawaii

Summary: Flood conditions continue in Hawaii.

A low-pressure system West of the State is continuing to interact with tropical moisture to the South, bringing isolated and heavy thunderstorms to Hawaii. A flash flood watch is currently in effect for the entire State through Friday at 6 PM HST, but the largest threat for flooding is on Oahu and Kauai today.

No further sites have exceeded peak of records, but isolated bands of rainfall have resulted in elevated water levels at most streams. Storms have resulted in small landslides and power outages on Oahu. A few sites are experiencing backwater conditions likely from log/debris jams. On 3/10/21, three crews were deployed and technicians collected water quality samples, a medium flow measurement, high-water marks at several crest stage gages, and assessed gages for damage. Three crews are being deployed again today to continue to collect high-water marks, medium flow measurements, and water quality samples. Conditions at some sites are still relatively unsafe for technicians to be deployed in with the threat for heavy rainfall continuing today; conditions are being monitored closely while crews are deployed in the field.
