PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CA) So Cal Storm moves East

Date: Fri, 29 Jan 2021 12:19:58 EST

Summary: Moderate flooding in Inland Empire, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties.

The Atmospheric River event that brought significant runoff to Santa Cruz and the Central Coast yesterday moved south into the LA basin overnight. Precipitation amounts failed to live up to the forecast there, although streams are up enough to allow some good mid level measurements for rating calibration.

There are reports of minor damage from debris flows off of the recent burn scars in San Bernardino County overnight, but nothing substantial at this time. Showers however, are forecast to continue through out the day. San Diego County received only about half of the forecast amounts and runoff there is minimal as the antecedent conditions were so very dry.

Mop up crews (22) are mobilized out of most of our field offices today, including Santa Cruz, Santa Maria, Sacramento, Redlands and Poway. Additional measurements and gage repairs may be needed over the weekend.

A smaller storm is forecast to impact the coast next week.
