Summary: Moderate flooding and isolated Major flooding in south-central and southeast New York.
Widespread flooding occurred in south-central & southeast New York
December 24-25 as a result of heavy rain and snowmelt. A total of
2-4 inches of rain and 2-4 inches of snowmelt resulted in Major flooding
along parts of Schoharie Creek and Esopus Creek in the Catskill Mountains
of southeastern New York. Moderate flooding occurred in the Susquehanna River Basin and headwaters of the Delaware River Basin. Streams in the
Catskill Mountains are forecast to fall below NWS Flood Stages Saturday
morning (Dec 26) while the mainstem Susquehanna River is forecast to
peak overnight and remain above NWS flood stage into Sunday (Dec 27). All
USGS gages are operating and follow-up inspections and measurements are
planned next week where significant flooding occurred.
