Summary: Hurricane Sally made landfall near Gulf Shores, Alabama on Sept. 16 bringing Category 2 winds and heavy rainfall.
Field crews from the LMG installed 12 pairs of storm-tide and atmospheric pressure sensors on Sept. 13 in anticipation of the approaching storm. The sensors were located along a coastal reach from the Mississippi River at Pointe a la Hache, LA to Mobile Bay, AL.
The storm brought heavy rainfall to coastal and southeast Alabama with preliminary rainfall estimates of 20 inches in some areas. Planning is underway for retrieval of the deployed sensors and high water mark surveys.
