Summary: Local minor flooding in southern New York
Local flooding is occurring in south-central and southeastern New York on Friday as a result of 1-3+ inches of rain during the past 24 hours. Two USGS streamgages briefly reached NWS Minor Flood Stage in the Esopus Creek and Schoharie Creek basins. Water levels at many USGS streamgages are receding Friday afternoon, although isolated thunderstorms may slow recessions in some basins. A few large streams downstream of reservoirs are forecast to remain near bankfull into Saturday.
A total of 6 USGS crews (12 staff members) from the Milford, Ithaca, and Troy offices are making numerous high-flow discharge measurements today for rating calibration. All USGS gages are currently operating. This is the last Project Alert for this high-flow event.
