Summary: Strong Pacific low will impact Southern California today.
An unusual late season storm will impact Southern California today bring copious amounts of precipitation and associated runoff to the LA Basin, Inland Empire and San Diego County.
The storm that has been pumping rainfall into Central and Southern California all week is coming ashore this morning bringing abundant moisture into the area. Antecedent conditions are ripe for some significant runoff as a result.
Several teams from our Redlands and Poway Field Offices are being mobilized to conduct measurements at select sites, while practicing Social Distancing. Not an easy chore but we are making a go of it utilizing separate vehicles for travel to each site and delineating tasks in ways that will allow staff to be safe while conducting these measurements.
NWS is forecasting an additional 1.5 inch near the coast and 2-3 inches in the San Diego County mountains and the San Bernardino area (Inland Empire) through out today. On top of already very wet soil moisture levels we anticipate widespread urban and small stream flooding. Flash Flood Watch and Winter Storm Advisories have been issued. Quite unusual for April in So Cal!
