PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (GA) SAWSC Responds to Lingering Flooding in Georgia

Summary: Eight USGS crews are responding to flooding issues caused by persistent rainfall in Georgia

The South Atlantic Water Science Center (SAWSC) has deployed eight teams to respond to ongoing flooding caused by weeks of significant rainfall.

The SAWSC-Norcross office has five teams deployed to measure the Tallulah River in northeast Georgia, the Tallapoosa River in west-central Georgia, and repair a gage on the upper Flint River.

The SAWSC-Savannah office has one team deployed to measure the Canoochee River near Claxton, Georgia.

The SAWSC-Tifton office has one team deployed to install a temporary gage below Walter F. George dam on the Chattahoochee River after the existing gage was destroyed by flood waters. A second team from Tifton is making flood measurements around the Albany, Georgia area on the Kinchafoonee, Muckalee, and Flint Rivers.
