Summary: Recent winter storm causing flooding in parts of Southern Missouri and Central and Southern Illinois.
CMWSC crews are responding to flooding on smaller and urban streams and rivers in response to precipitation produced by the storm system that started working it's way across the Midwest yesterday. Colder temperatures are causing some GOES transmission issues in other parts of the center due to ice accumulation on transmission antennas. Road conditions in some areas will require improvement before some of those issues are resolved.
The Rolla, MO office has 4 crews (8 staff) deployed. The Olivette, MO office has 2 crews (3 staff) responding. The Mount Vernon, IL location has 1 crew (2 staff) deployed. The Urbana, IL office has 5 staff responding.
3 sites were measured yesterday. Crews will attempt to measure approximately 28 sites today.
Units chiefs and CMWSC staff will be communicating with NWS via NWSChat.
We will be monitoring the flooding and expect that flooding will continue through the weekend and into early next week, especially for larger basins. Road conditions and staff safety will be the priority in dictating continued response through the rest of today and tomorrow.
