PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (WA) Flood Status

Summary: Heavy rain today and through tomorrow is causing flooding in Western Washington today and through the weekend.

An atmospheric river or plume of Pacific moisture has reached Western Washington bringing moderate to heavy rainfall today and through Saturday. The hills and mountains have received 3-4 inches of precipitation in the last 12 hours and 1-2 inches in the interior lowlands. Currently two streamgage sites are above flood stage and thirteen more sites are forecasted to exceed their flood stage this weekend in western Washington. No sites are expected to reach the Major Flood or Record Flood categories and rainfall is expected to taper off on Sunday. The Western Washington Field Office (Tacoma) and the Northwest Washington Field Office (Ferndale) have crews out today and each office will have two crews out this weekend to make high-flow measurements.
