Summary: Tropical Depression Imelda moving out of Southeast Texas
Scattered showers from Tropical Depression Imelda have continued to fall in southeast Texas, although they have been less intense than in the previous few days. Four-day rainfall amounts of greater than 20 inches have been recorded throughout East Texas and continue to affect streams in the San Jacinto and Neches River basins. Rains are predicted to move out of the area overnight limiting the possibility of additional flooding.
Today, five crews have been out making high-flow discharge measurements and servicing a water-quality monitor. Discharge measurements have been made at 12 sites in the effected areas. The majority of streams have crested and are receding rapidly. Only the lower Neches River is expected to remain elevated into the weekend with a predicted crest early next week.
All gages remain in operation and no indirect measurements are planned.
The USGS remains in contact with cooperators in the effected area, including the Lower Neches River Valley Authority, the Harris County Flood Control District, as well as the National Weather Service.
