PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (TX) Tropical Depression Imelda

Date: Thu, 19 Sep 2019 13:41:05 EDT

Summary: Tropical Depression Imelda still impacting south east Texas

Overnight, the precipitation from Tropical Depression Imelda intensified in South East Texas from storm bands that trained over areas of Beaumont, Liberty, and Conroe. Rainfall totals from the NWS gages early this morning showed 24 hour totals of near 20 inches in Beaumont and 10 inches in Conroe. Significant street flooding and road closures are effecting these areas. The forecast is for the system to remain in the same area for most of the day before it moves more north. Sites on the Neches and San Jacinto Rivers are either already in major flood status or forecast to reach major flood status by this evening.

Two USGS crews are, weather permitting, planning to do flood measurements in the San Jacinto Basin. Additional crews are out to do water-quality and sediment event sampling. In anticipation of more major flooding, additional crews are headed to the Houston office today to assist in flood measurements.
