PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (UT VA) VA-WV WSC preparing for Hurricane Dorian

Summary: USGS VA-WV Water Science Center is deploying rapid deployment gages and storm tide sensors in southeast Virginia in preparation for Hurricane Dorian.

The VA-WV WSC received a FEMA Mission Assignment on Wednesday, 9/4/19, to deploy storm tide sensors and Rapid Deployment Gages (RDG) along the southeast Virginia coast. NWS is forecasting 4-6 inches of rain for this area starting Friday and continuing through Saturday. Impacts to coastal streamflow monitoring stations are expected as well. There are currently 6 staff in the field deploying 5 RDGs and one wave transect. The locations of RDGs and storm tide sensors were coordinated with local governments, NWS, and FEMA. The deployments will be completed by Thursday, 9/5/19.
