PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (FL) Hurricane Dorian Response

Summary: CFWSC staff in Florida deployed storm tide sensors and rapid deployment gages along the coast in preparation for Hurricane Dorian.

Florida received a FEMA Mission Assignment on Thursday to deploy storm tide sensors and Rapid Deployment Gages (RDG) along the Florida coast. Staff deployed 158 storm tide sensors and 8 RDGS. The deployments were completed on August 31, and no staff are in the field today, September 1.

As Hurricane Dorian gets closer to Florida, U.S. Geological Survey scientists have been in the field from Savannah, Georgia to Hollywood, Florida and on Florida’s Gulf Coast, deploying 175 storm-tide sensors [video] and16 other instruments that will track the hurricane’s effects.
