PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (OK) Continued Major Flooding on Arkansas River

Summary: Continuing historic flooding occurring on the Arkansas River in Oklahoma.

Some more precipitation fell last night and more is predicted for today. Eastern Oklahoma is predicted to get another 1-2 inches of rain on already flooded areas. We are working very closely with the Corps of Engineers on the Arkansas Navigation channel. There are currently 11 gages in the major flood category. The lower Arkansas is predicted to be in the major flood category well into next week.

Oklahoma is going on day 9 of flood measuring. Currently 7 USGS crews (14 individuals) are in the process of conducting flood measurements in Northeast and Eastern Oklahoma.
