PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (MO) High Water/Flood Activities within the Central Midwest Water Science Center (MO)

Date: Wed, 22 May 2019 15:08:58 EDT

Summary: Recent heavy storms and saturated conditions leading to high water in Missouri.

Strong storms moving through already saturated areas of Western, Central, and Northeast Missouri have lead to high water and flooding conditions in the region. There were 51 gages in MO in flood stage as of this morning. Impacted areas include but are not limited to: Missouri River Basin, Platte River Basin, Crooked River Basin, Wakenda River Basin, Grand River Basin, Lamine River Basin, and Osage River Basin.

Crews from the Lees Summit and Rolla field offices made 22 high water streamflow measurements yesterday. There were approximately 15 measurements planned for today. Crews will be starting to watch the Missouri River and plan to perform measurements at select locations tomorrow and possibly through the rest of the week, perhaps through the weekend if needed. Other unit offices within the CMWSC continue to monitor stations and weather in their territories. Storms are forecast to continue through the rest of the week and weekend for the region. NWS Day 4-5 Qpf suggests areas in Northwestern MO and Southwestern IA may receive up to 4" of precip. We will continue to monitor the situation and respond as needed.

Unit staff in this region have seemingly been continuously responding to high water in the region since mid-March. Their hard work while putting in long hours under difficult conditions as well as their dedication to high water response is greatly appreciated by the CMWSC.
