PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (OK) Major flooding in Northern Oklahoma

Summary: Tuesday event produced major flooding across central and northern Oklahoma.

Precipitation totals for this event ranged from 2 to 7 inches over 12 hours and it is currently still raining. Yesterday Oklahoma received rain on already saturated soils and higher than normal river levels. There are currently 11 gages predicted to be in the NWS major flood category either today or in the next couple of days. Storms will continue to rain today causing large river flooding in the Arkansas, Cimarron, and North Canadian River basins.

No streamgages have been damaged or destoryed yet.

Currently 6 USGS crews (12 individuals) are in the process of conducting flood measurements in Central and Northern Oklahoma.
