PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (KS) Widespread rainfall causing minor flooding throughout Kansas

Summary: Widespread rainfall over the past seven days has caused minor flooding across the eastern half of the state of Kansas with additional heavy rainfall expected over the next two days.

Total rainfall over the past 7 days has exceeded 8 inches in some locations with forecast amounts of up to an additional 2.5 inches expected to fall over the next 48 hours. At this time flooding has remained minor with National Weather Service flood forecasts for many streams expected to crest above moderate flood stage.

Major basins affected by flooding are the Arkansas River, Marais Des Cygnes River, Neosho River, and Verdigris River along with the major tributaries in these systems.

Four crews are deployed making high flow measurements with additional sampling crews planned for Wednesday.
