PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IA IL MO) Flooding Related activities in CMWSC

Summary: Flood response activities continue for the Central Midwest Water Science Center

There are 117 stations in flood stage today across the CMWSC. Only 5 station are in Major flood stage. CMWSC has 25 staff deployed to make measurements. Work is primarily focused in Missouri and Central and Southern IL.

Crews made 76 total measurements across all three states yesterday. There are at least 35 measurements planned for today.

A crew measured the Mississippi River @ Clinton IA from 1pm to 9pm to provide data to USACE and USGS WMA to look at potential surging in the river.

USGS has obtained a Mission Assignment from USACE for flagging and surveying High Water marks in IA along the Missouri River. Management is focusing efforts on determining staffing for this effort. It is expected to take a month, with work potentially starting next week.


Measurements are being communicated to NWS via NWS Chat.
