Date: Wed, 01 May 2019 10:45:43 EDT

Summary: Heavy rains this week coupled with already higher than normal stages for most parts of the CMWSC area continue to cause flooding across the region.

CMWSC Has 27 staff deployed to respond to high water. IL has 42 stations in flood stage, IA has 15 stations in flood stage, and MO has 66 stations in flood stage. Areas affected tend to be the northeast, central and southern part of Missouri, the area along the Mississippi in IA, and most of Illinois.

The Iowa City office has a crew on the Mississippi @ Clinton performing measurements for USACE/USGS WMA.

Measurements are being communicated to NWS via NWS Chat for all activities.

We expect flood measurements to continue through the week and possibly into the weekend.

FEMA Has issued an Incident report for Davenport, IA area where a temporary flood wall failed, with flood waters impacting about 400 structures.......

From FEMA:
"Shortly before 4:00 pm today, the Regional Watch Center was notified that the temporary floodwall, constructed of HESCO barriers, that provided flood protection for downtown Davenport, Iowa had failed.

Local media is reporting that barrier failed at Pershing Avenue and Pershing and 2nd streets are underwater. Water rescues are ongoing.

Iowa Homeland Security and Emergency Management reports 1st floor business and overhead apartments downtown have been or are in the process of being evacuated. Local emergency management officials’ initial estimates suggest up to 400 structures have the potential to be impacted by this event. The magnitude of the event depends on how much rainfall is received overnight. From 1 to 2 inches are forecast.

Officials continue with pumping and sand-bagging activities in the area.

The Mississippi River at Rock Island is expected to crest early Thursday morning at 22.2 feet (major flood is 18 ft). This will be the 4th highest crest on record for the area. Record is 22.63 ft. The river has been in major flood at this location since mid-March 2019."
