PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IA IL MO) Flood Activities Continue in Central Midwest

Date: Sun, 24 Mar 2019 10:07:09 EDT

Summary: Flooding continues from recent rainfall and snow-melt in the Central Midwest (IA-IL-MO) area.

Across, IL, IA, and MO there are currently 42 streamgages in minor flood stage, 22 in moderate flood stage, and 4 in major flood stage for a total of 68 streamgages above flood stage. It appears that the peak on the Missouri River passed through Kansas City yesterday and appears to be moving toward Napoleon. Crews intend to measure the MO River at Glasgow (06906500) today as well as backwater on the Blue River at Stadium Drive (06893578). They plan to measure MO River @ Boonville (06909000) tomorrow. Additionally, flood waters are slowly making their way down the Mississippi River with peaks expected to move through the rest of the weekend and into the early part of next week as the snow continues to melt up north.

USGS staff are staying in communication with the Corps of Engineers and the National Weather Service providing observation and measurement information.

Crews from Rolla and Council Bluffs continue to perform measurements at levee breaches along the Missouri River for the USACE Omaha district.
