PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IA IL MO) (IL IA MO) Flood Measurement Activities Continue in Central Midwest

Summary: Flooding continues from recent rainfall and snowmelt in the Central Midwest (IA-IL-MO) area.

There are currently 39 streamgages in minor flood stage, 29 in moderate flood stage, and 6 in major flood stage for a total of 78 streamgages above flood stage. The peak has passed the gage on the Missouri River at Rulo, The Missouri River at St Joseph, MO is expected to peak today. Flood waters are slowly making their way down the Mississippi River with peaks expected to move through the rest of the week and into the early part of next week as the snow continues to melt up north.

USGS crews in MO continue to make flood measurements on the Missouri River. They measured the Missouri River at St. Joseph yesterday evening and again earlier today. They plan to measure the Missouri River @ Parkville today and at Napoleon tomorrow. USGS staff are staying in communication with the Corps of Engineers and the National Weather Service providing observation and measurement information.

Crews from Council Bluffs, Fort Dodge, and Rolla are performing measurements at levee breaches along the Missouri River for the USACE Omaha district. They are expected to continue this work through the weekend.
