PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IA IL MO) Flood Measurement Activities Continue in Central Midwest

Summary: Flooding continues from recent rainfalls and snowmelt in the Central Midwest (IA-IL-MO) area.

Flooding continues from recent rainfalls and snowmelt in the Central Midwest (IA-IL-MO) area. There currently are 46 streamgages in minor flood, 24 in moderate flood, and 12 in major flood stage for a total of 82 streamgages above flood stage. Missouri River at Rulo, NE peaked yesterday and the Missouri River at St Joseph, MO is expected to peak tomorrow. Flood waters are slowly making its way down the Mississippi River with what appears to be a double peak on the upper Mississippi River as the snow continues to melt up north.

USGS crews continue to make flood measurements on the Missouri and Mississippi Rivers and tributaries. USGS staff are staying in communication with the Corps of Engineers and the National Weather Service providing observation and measurement information.
