Summary: USGS continues response to flooding in Central Midwest
Flooding continues from recent rainfalls and snowmelt in the Central Midwest (IA-IL-MO) area. There currently 121 streamgages with readings above flood stage in this area. Seventy-two of the streamgages are in minor flood, 36 are in moderate flood, and 13 are in major flood stage. The stage and discharge have exceeded the 88-year period of record values for the Missouri River at Nebraska City, NE and the period of record values are expected to be exceeded on the Missouri River at Brownville, NE over the weekend.
USGS crews have made around 75 high-flow measurements since the start of the event and will continue to make measurements today and through the weekend. USGS staff are working with the USACE and the NWS to prioritize measurement locations and to communicate measurement and gage status information. No additional support is needed at this time.
