PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CA) Continued stormy conditions across California

Date: Fri, 15 Feb 2019 13:16:02 EST

Summary: The AR is now passed but three more cold waves are forecast to move over the state through Sunday.

The AR that impacted So Cal yesterday is now passed and the next cold front is scheduled to move in this afternoon. Rainfall amounts were pretty much as forecast and runoff the like of which we haven't seen in many years kept USGS staff quite busy across the state.

The RT Manager reports over 30 measurements put in for yesterday, and there are several that are pending. We are still sorting out the peaks and cleaning up things today but it looks like we may have exceeded POR's at a handful of sites in the lower desert, Coachella area.

At this time the estimate is that we will need 30-40 indirects from this event. CAWSC has an Indirects Survey Action Team of skilled Techs to cover this work, however, if needed we may ask for some assistance. That is not expected at this time.

6-8 gages are known to have suffered broken orifice lines or clogged intakes and crews are out today assessing the situation and making repairs as they are able. Three storms of a much smaller nature are forecast to sweep through the state in the next few days. These storms are of a much colder nature so the snow levels are expected to drop significantly reducing runoff effects. Thanks for the offers of support, for now all is well.
