PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (FL) CFWSC Hurricane Michael response

Summary: USGS CFWSC staff respond to Hurricane Michael Storm Surge and flooding

USGS CFWSC staff (37 hydrographers) are in the field today flagging and surveying high water marks along the Gulf coast as a result of Hurricane Michael. Minor flooding is still occurring at 1 station, and near flooding is occurring at 6 stations in the affected area. USGS crews (4 hydrographers) are making 2 discharge measurement for today.

Fifty-two storm-tide and barometric pressure sensors have been recovered, and 458 high water marks have been flagged. Two storm-tide sensors and 1 barometric sensor were destroyed in the storm surge. One stream-gage was also destroyed. 17 discharge measurements have been made.

Data is currently being updated into the USGS Flood Event Viewer.
