Summary: USGS staff deploy for Hurricane Michael
Hurricane Michael is forecast to make landfall in the Port St. Joe-Apalachicola Bay area Wednesday October 10 as a major hurricane. USGS staff from the Tallahassee and Orlando Water Data offices have deployed 34 water level sensors, 16 barometric pressure sensors, and 2 rapid deployment gages along the Gulf coast shoreline from from Destin to Cedar Key, Florida. These tidal sensors can used to supplement teh existing long term USGS gage network in the affected area. All USGS crews have returned safely to office to await the impacts of the hurricane and recovery of sensors after the storm passes and conditions are safe for field duties.
