Summary: USGS staff deploy for Hurricane Michael
Hurricane Michael is forecast to make landfall in the Port St. Joe-Apalachicola Bay area by Wednesday as a possible category 2 or 3 storm. USGS staff from the Tallahassee and Orlando Water Data offices are preparing to deploy water level sensors and rapid deployment gages from Destin to Cedar Key, Florida. Four to ten inches of rainfall is forecast for this storm event. Should major flooding occur USGS staff will respond by conducting flood discharge measurements at USGS stream-gages as soon as wind conditions are safe.
