PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (CT) response to flooding in CT

Date: Wed, 26 Sep 2018 11:16:49 EDT

Summary: CT flood response to significant precipitation event 9/25/18-9/26/18.

In CT, up to 8 inches of rain has been reported with most areas of the state receiving 3-4 inches. Small/medium drainage area gages peaked in the middle of the night, most flooding is in the eastern/southeastern part of the state with some flooding also in the south central part of the state. At least two small bridges have been destroyed but not at gages so no major impact to USGS from them, there have been several road closures around the state but so far they haven't significantly impacted our ability to reach gages. We've reached 2 yr. RIs at 7 gages, 5 yr. RIs at 5 gages, and 10 yr. RIs at 3 gages, no POR extremes. No streamgages have been destroyed. The CT office has three crews out measuring high flows today and we likely send three crews out again tomorrow.
