Summary: Flooding is occurring in south central New York today as a result of 2-4 inches of rain during the past 12 hours from the remnants of Hurricane Florence.
Flooding is occurring in south central New York today as a result of 2-4 inches of rain during the past 12 hours from the remnants of Hurricane Florence. In the Susquehanna R basin, two USGS streamgages reached NWS moderate flood category (Owego Cr nr Owego, NY & Tioughnioga R at Itaska, NY) and two streamgages reached NWS minor flood
category (Chenango R nr Chenango, NY and Chenango R at Greene, NY). Streams in southicentral New York are near peak. However, further east, the Hoosic River near Eagle Bridge, NY is forecast by NWS to reach minor NWS flood category later this evening. NWS Flood Warnings remain in effect for south-central and eastern New York throughout the day.
A total of 7 USGS crews (14 staff members)from the Troy and Ithaca offices are making high-flow discharge measurements today for rating calibration. All USGS gages are operating.
