PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (NC SC) SAWSC Responds to Tropical Storm Florence

Summary: Tropical Storm Florence continues catastrophic flooding in North and South Carolina.

Southeastern North Carolina and eastern South Carolina have received in excess of 20" of rain (40" in isolated areas). Major flooding is occurring on the Cape Fear, Lumber, Waccamaw, Pee Dee, and Little Pee Dee Rivers. Multiple peaks of records are predicted. Coastal Plain rivers are still rising, some may not peak for another 7-10 days. 14 fatalities have been attributed to Florence.
Five stations have stopped transmitting (NC 3, SC 2). 26 SAWSC employees are currently making discharge measurements, gage repairs, and relocating RDGs. SAWSC is in continuous communication with NWS, FEMA, State EMDs and DOTs, and USACE.
