Date: Tue, 11 Sep 2018 12:47:13 EDT

Summary: USGS staff is deploying water level and meteorological sensors in advance of Hurricane Florence.

As Hurricane Florence approaches the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coastal regions, USGS field crews from the VA-WV WSC are deploying real-time rapid deployment gages and storm-surge sensors to record data from the storm. There are currently six 2-person crews (12 personnel) in the field installing equipment and initializing data collection. Sensors are being deployed from the Atlantic Coast to the far eastern portions of West Virginia as the entire area is forecast to receive 6-10+ inches of rain and some areas have already received 2-5 inches over the last 48 hours.

All sensors are being deployed in the STN and the data will be available through the Flood Event Viewer.

There has been significant coordination with FEMA, USACE, NWS, and state and local cooperators to determine the locations of the sensors
