PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (MD) USGS prepares for data collection in response to Hurricane Florence (MD-DE-DC WSC)

Summary: Field crews deploy monitoring assets ahead of potential impacts from Hurricane Florence.

As Hurricane Florence approaches the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic coastal regions, USGS field crews from the MD-DE-DC WSC are deploying storm-surge sensors to record data from the storm. One 2-person crew is currently deployed to the Atlantic coast of Virginia deploying instruments at three sites. Another 1-person crew is deploying sensors at five sites on the western shore of the Maryland portion of Chesapeake Bay and the tidal Potomac River.
