PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (IA) USGS crews continue to respond to flooding in Iowa

Date: Sun, 09 Sep 2018 11:57:59 EDT

Summary: Flooding continues in Iowa from rains over the last week, resulting in USGS crews being deployed to these locations.

Flooding continues in Iowa as a result of heavy rains over the last week, with some areas receiving over 10 inches of rain during that period (https://water.weather.gov/precip/). 21 USGS streamgages in Iowa are currently over the National Weather Service (NWS) Flood Stage, with two locations being over NWS Major Flood stage.

One USGS crew has been deployed to the Cedar River basin today to measure streamflow and ensure proper streamgage operation. USGS crews will continue to be deployed in Iowa in the upcoming days as flood crests move downstream.

All streamgages appear to be functioning properly. Communication is being made with the NWS, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and emergency managers primarily through NWSChat.
