Summary: New York Water Science Center Begins Storm-Tide and Wave Sensor Recovery

Today 3 field teams from the New York Water Science Center began retrieval of sensors deployed in southeastern New York for the recent March Nor'easter. Additionally, these crews are flagging and surveying high-water marks co-located at these sensor deployment sites.

Of the 12 tide and wave sensors deployed for this storm, 6 were recovered today, and 1 additional sensor was determined to be lost. This sensor, deployed on an ocean beach jetty at Fire Island, New York, was ripped from the concrete structure that it was secured to by the intense wave action from this storm.

The additional 5 sensors still deployed are expected to be recovered later this week after the next in a series of Nor'easters moves away form the region. Processing and dissemination of retrieved data will begin tomorrow and is expected to be complete later in the week, with all data being available on the USGS Flood Event Viewer (https://stn.wim.usgs.gov/FEV).

All field teams out today have returned safely.
