Summary: The New Jersey Water Science Center deploys for the Nor'easter of March 2018.
A major coastal storm will impact New Jersey tonight through Saturday. For coastal New Jersey the current NWS forecasts are as follows:
--Northwest winds are forecast to rapidly increase late Friday morning and continue through Saturday morning. Sustained northwest winds of 30 to 40 kt with gusts up to 60 kt are anticipated.
--Minor flooding is anticipated with the high tides on Friday morning and Friday evening, moderate to locally major flooding is expected with the high tide on Saturday morning, and moderate flooding is forecast with the high tide on Saturday evening.
--Surge around 1 to 1.5 ft on Friday, building to 2.5 to 3 ft on Saturday.
--Seas are expected to reach 8 to 13 feet, and potentially higher by late Friday night.
For inland New Jersey, a flood watch in effect for Friday with forecasted rains ranging from 1.5-2 inches in Central NJ to 2-3 inches in Northeast NJ.
Today, March 1, 2018, the New Jersey Water Science Center has dispatched 3 hydrographers to deploy storm surge sensors along the New Jersey coast.
