Summary: Storm-Tide and Wave-Sensor Deployment for the Nor'easter of March 2018.
An intense Nor'easter is forecast to develop off the Northeast coast on Friday, producing very strong winds and moderate to locally major tidal flooding in parts of southeastern New York State over multiple tidal cycles. Additionally, the storm is expected to generate very high seas leading to some significant beach erosion.
The New York Water Science Center currently has 3 teams deploying 12 storm-tide and wave sensors along the New York coast measure wave height and tide levels from this storm, and to provide information on the timing, duration, and extent of flooding. Deployment is expected to be complete this evening.
