PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (KY) Flooding on the lower Ohio River

Summary: Moderate category flooding continues on the lower portion of the Ohio River.

Moderate to major category flood conditions continue on the lower Ohio River. Discharge measurements made by field staff at the Markland and Cannelton lock and dam structures yesterday were the highest ever obtained.

The Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Water Science Center, Louisville and Murray offices, have 3 crews (7 people) out today making discharge measurements on the Ohio River. Two special measurements of water quality are also planned for tomorrow on the lower Tennessee and Ohio Rivers.

As of this alert, 48 special measurements of discharge have been made during this event. No gages are currently down within the impacted area but the Ohio River at Evansville, IN gage has had intermittent problems throughout the event. Contact with the National Weather Service, the US Army Corps of Engineers, and local cooperators are ongoing.
