Summary: Minor to moderate flooding occurring in Kentucky.
A slow moving front dropped up to 2” of rain in some places over western Kentucky over the past 24 hours. Portions of the state are experiencing minor to moderate category flooding. A moderate category flood is expected to move down the Ohio River over the next week with the potential for major category flooding along the lower reach.
The Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana Water Science Center, Murray office, has 2 crews (4 people) in flood response today. One of those crews will be making special discharge measurements from a manned boat downstream of Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake at the request of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The Corps are releasing large volumes of water from both reservoirs and want to ensure their gate ratings are accurate. The Louisville office has 8 people out measuring today, primarily in smaller basins.
There are no major gage outages. Contact with the National Weather Service and the US Army Corps of Engineers is ongoing.
