Summary: Several rivers in the Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center area have exceeded National Weather Service minor flood levels and the Water Science Center has several crews in the field making discharge measurements and collecting water-quality samples.
Forty-eight hour rainfall totals from 2 to 5 inches have been common over parts of the Lower Mississippi-Gulf Water Science Center (LMGWSC) area with the heaviest rainfall (over 8 inches) in areas of South and West Arkansas. The current National Weather Service (NWS) 5 day Quantitative Precipitation Forecast is indicating up to 5 more inches over parts of Arkansas and West Tennessee. Several gages have exceeded NWS minor flood stage within the LMGWSC and NWS forecasts indicate that many of these will exceed moderate flood stage over the next few days.
The LMGWSC currently has 8 crews (5 from Little Rock, AR; 2 from Memphis, TN; and 1 from Jackson, MS) making discharge measurements and 3 crews (2 from Little Rock, AR and 1 from Jackson, MS) collecting water quality samples).
