PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (ME NH) Updated response to flooding in Western ME/NH

Summary: Response continues for flooding in Western Maine and NH in the headwaters of the Saco, Androscoggin and Sandy River basins.

Western Maine and northeastern NH saw 2-4 inches of rain Oct. 29-30, with a small area receiving 4-8 inches, according to the NWS.

Formal numbers will be computed today, but an initial look indicates about 6 sites in the 0.5 to 0.2 AEP range (2-5 year), 5 sites in the 0.1 to 0.02 AEP range (10-50 year) and 1 site in the 0.01 AEP range (>100 year). At the peak, about 32% of the state's population was without power, which is now around 25%. Several small bridges were damaged in the area. The NWS has issued a watch due to concern of dam failure on the Androscoggin River in Shelburne, NH, but the impacts would be relatively limited.

One streamgage was damaged, but is still operating, with valid data on the web.

Three crews are deployed today for high flow measurements and rating confirmation as stations recede. In addition, two indirects are planned, with HWMs beginning today.

There has been limited contact with Maine EMA.
