PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (NY) Local Flooding in Upstate New York

Summary: Local flooding in Upstate New York.

Local flooding is occurring in Upstate New York today as a result of 3-6 inches of rain during the past 24 hours. One USGS streamgage in the West Canada Creek basin reached NWS moderate flood category. In addition, three USGS streamgages in the Beaver Kill, E Br Ausable R, and E Br Delaware R basins reached NWS minor flood category. Flows at many USGS streamgages are near peak or decreasing this morning, although flows at several streamgages are to increase through this afternoon.

A total of 9 USGS crews (18 staff members) from the Ithaca, Troy, and Potsdam, NY offices are making high-flow discharge measurements today for rating calibration. ​ ​The approximate annual exceedence probability is 0.5 to 0.2 (2-5 yr flood). One USGS gage has a telemetry issue that is being repaired this morning.
