Summary: Heavy rain and high winds in Western Maine/NH
In Western Maine, and in the headwaters of the Saco River and Androscoggin River in NH, widespread flooding is occurring due to an overnight storm that dropped 2-5 inches of rain over the area and had wind gusts up to 60 mph. This is in addition to the 3-5 inches that fell in the area last week.
Most rivers are within a 0.2 AEP (<5 year), though the Wild River at Gilead (01054200) has exceeded the 0.01 AEP (100 year). Several gages are at, or are forecasted to reach, minor to moderate NWS flood stages. At the time of posting, about 20% of the state's population is without power due to downed trees. Initial reports from field crews is that site access is challenging due to the remote locations and bridge damage.
All gages are transmitting, no known damage at this time.
The USGS has 2 crews headed to the area. Many staff have had issues getting to the office, or are dealing with damage at their homes from the storm. At least one additional crew will head to the area this morning.
No interaction with cooperators at this point.
