Summary: Flooding is currently occurring at many sites in Western Washington exceeding the lower and middle flood stages, but some sites have already crested and most will be below flood stage by tonight.
Western Washington was hit by it's third storm this week last night causing rapid rise in many of the rivers on the west side of the Cascades beginning late last night and this morning. The storm seemed focused on the central portion of the Cascades in Washington in the Cowlitz, Puyallup and Snoqualmie basins although flooding further south and north is occurring. As of 9:00 am, there are eight stations that are forecasted to exceed their lower flood stage, three are forecasted to exceed the moderate flood stage and several of the high-elevation basins have already crested. Most of those that have not crested, are forecasted to crest soon and will be below flood stage by tonight. The White River below Mud Mountain Dam will be above flood stage for a few days due to its limited flood-carrying capacity. Five crews from the two Western Washington USGS field offices will be out today making discharge measurements. There have been no reports of failing gages yet.
