PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (FL) locally heavy rainfall in southwest Florida

Date: Sat, 26 Aug 2017 12:35:19 EDT

Summary: USGS crews respond to high flows and flooding in Lee and Collier Counties due to heavy rainfall from tropical disturbance Invest 92L

Heavy rainfall associated with the remains of Invest 92L caused minor to moderate flooding in Lee and Collier Counties, which were already saturated prior to this event. Since yesterday, about 5 inches of rainfall was recorded at the NWS station at Page Field in Ft Meyers, and 4 to 5 inches of additional rainfall is predicted through Sunday.

Today, two crews (four people total) are measuring flows at 4 stations in the Lee County area. Several canals and streams are at flows that have not been measured since the 1990s, though no peaks of record are expected at any station. Conditions will be monitored tomorrow and into next week to determine if additional measurements are needed.
