Summary: USGS crews continue to respond to flooding in northern Illinois and northeastern Iowa.
Due to heavy rains that fell on July 21 and July 22 in northern Illinois and northeast Iowa, rivers in those areas continue to rise. Affected River basins include the Rock, Fox, and Pecatonica Rivers in Illinois, and the Wapsipinicon, Maquoketa, and Volga Rivers. 22 USGS streamgages in northern Illinois are above the National Weather Service (NWS) flood stage and six USGS streamgages in Iowa are above the NWS flood stage.
Yesterday USGS crews were deployed to the affected areas and made approximately 15 discharge measurements to validate stage-discharge relations and assist the NWS with forecast information. Three USGS crews are deployed again today to make discharge measurements and ensure proper streamgage operation.
All streamgages in the affected areas appear to be functioning. Information is being conveyed to the NWS, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and other emergency mangers, primarily through NWSChat.
