Summary: Moderate to major flooding in Ohio
An additional three inches of rain overnight has fallen on already saturated soils in parts of northwest Ohio. The Findlay, Ohio area was hit the hardest last night. The main river basin affected is the Blanchard River, however, Eagle Creek, Lye Creek and The Outlet all flow into the Blanchard River in the Findlay area.
At present, the Blanchard River at Findlay is the only gage in major flood stage, however Eagle Creek is forecast to also be in major flood stage. One river gage, Blanchard River at Gilboa is not working.
Three USGS crews will be measuring high water today, with two crews staying in the Findlay area and concentrating on the Blanchard River basin (this includes Eagle Creek). One crew will be fixing the Blanchard River near Gilboa today, as there are unconfirmed reports that the gage got struck by lightning.
The City of Findlay and the Village of Gilboa have both been notified of our actions. These entities have also been reminded of the Flood Inundation Model the USGS has done for this area.
