PROJECT ALERT NOTICE (FL) Flooding from Tropical Storm Cindy

Summary: Heavy rainfall in Northwest FL, associated with Tropical Storm Cindy, has caused minor to moderate flooding; field crews are conducting measurements at USGS stream gaging sites around the Pensacola area.

Since Tuesday, June 20, nearly 10 inches of rainfall was recorded at 02369600 Yellow River Near Milton, Fl, with most of the rain falling on June 21. The heavy rainfall is causing minor to moderate flooding in the area. Some additional rainfall is expected through the end of this week.

USGS field crews are making discharge measurements at gage locations in the Pensacola area. Though no peaks of record are expected, flows at this magnitude have not been measured at many of the affected gages since 2012. Two hydrographers are currently making flood measurements in Pensacola area today and 8 additional hydrographers will be traveling to Pensacola on Thursday June 22. High flow measurements are expected to continue though Saturday June 24.

No gages have been damaged.
