Summary: Localized Flooding in several Southern Idaho River Basins
Warm weather last week coupled with rain on substantial snowpacks (150-200%) over the weekend brought several rivers and streams at or near flood stage. Hardest hit are the Big Wood River, Boise River and Payette River affecting the towns of Emmett and Payette in the Payette River Basin. Boise, Star, Caldwell, Nampa along the Boise River, and Ketchum, Hailey, and Bellevue along the Big Wood River. Flood impacts have been noted in the towns of Emmett, Hailey, Ketchum, and Bellevue along with property damage, water over roadways and voluntary evacuations.
In Eastern Idaho the Portneuf River remains above flood stage affecting the city of Pocatello, the Salt River has climbed above action stage and expected to go above flood stage later this week along with the Snake River, Blackfoot River, and Henry's Fork Rivers affecting the communities of Rexburg, Blackfoot, and Etna WY.
In Northern Idaho, The Kootenai River and contributing tributaries are expected to approach flood stage this week along with portions of the Salmon River affecting communities along those river systems.
Temperatures are again expected to increase this week with rain possibly on Friday adding to the threat for new and continued flooding by next weekend.
